I have been working from home today. Its truly amazing how much work you can achieve without interruptions and distractions. And also having ad end time frame with the family returning home. There simply is not the option of staying late. And this got me thinking, do we do overtime because we need to, or because we can. Does the efficiency of extra hours working hide inefficiency.
This is especially true within the AEC professions. Speaking to an Engineer the other day whilst carrying out Project reviews, one of his issues was his staff logging extra time on projects because they can, by working late, not because they had to. - Another reason to fully cost overtime as it highlighted this issue.
